Volkswagen Key Fob Battery Replacement
Changing the battery in a VW key fob yourself is quite simple. When you need to replace the battery in a Volkswagen car key, it is worth knowing that there are generally two types of key fobs:
- old style — the Volkswagen logo has a blue outline;
- new style — the Volkswagen logo is silver and black.
This photo report will show how the battery replacement is done in both cases.
Replacing the battery in an old Volkswagen key
First, you need to turn the key fob over and separate the halves of the fob using a screwdriver. Then remove the cover from the bottom part — this will provide access to the battery.
Carefully remove the old CR2032 3-volt battery and insert the new one. The battery is installed with the "+", positive side, facing down. After that, you can reassemble the key fob in reverse order.
Replacing the battery in a new Volkswagen key
To replace the battery in the new style key fob, you need to press the button to flip out the ignition key. Then insert your finger into the slot where the key rests and remove the cover.
Having gained access to the battery in this way, carefully remove the old one and install a new CR2032 3-volt battery. Unlike the old version of the fob, here the battery is installed with the "+" facing up. Then follows the assembly and testing of the key fob.
