Amps to Watts Conversion Calculator

Power in an electrical circuit represents the energy consumed by a load from a source per unit of time. The unit of measurement is the Watt [W]. Current reflects the amount of charge passing through a conductor per unit of time. It is measured in Amperes [A]. Voltage (potential difference) is measured in Volts [V].
To calculate the Amps / Watts ratio, Ohm's Law is used. Power is numerically equal to the product of the current flowing through the load and the voltage applied to it. The basic formula is: P = I × U.
Consequently, to determine power when the amperage is known, use the formula: W (Watts) = A (Amps) × V (Volts). For the reverse conversion (power to current), divide Watts by Volts. If the calculation is for a three-phase network (380V), a coefficient of √3 (approx. 1.73) must be taken into account.
How many Watts are in 1 Amp and Amps in a Watt?

To convert Watts to Amps for AC or DC voltage (for resistive loads), you need the formula:
I = P / U, where:
- I – current in Amps;
- P – power in Watts;
- U – voltage in Volts.
If the network is three-phase (380V), the formula is: I = P / (√3 × U).
Based on the formulas: one Watt is approximately 4.5 mA (1 A = 1000 mA) at 220 Volts and 0.083 A at 12 Volts.
When it is necessary to convert current to power (to find out how many Watts are in 1 Amp), apply the formula:
P = I × U (for 1 phase) or P = √3 × I × U (for 3 phases).
For example: in an automotive network (12V), 1 Amp is 12 Watts. In a domestic mains network (220V), a current of 1 A corresponds to a power of 220 W (0.22 kW). In an industrial 380 Volt network, this is about 657 Watts.
