Chery Tiggo Gearbox Oil Change
To change the oil in the Chery Tiggo (Chery Tiggo/Vortex) gearbox, you will need 3 litres of 75W90 oil, 24mm and 17mm spanners, a long hose, a funnel, and a cut-out canister for waste oil. The procedure will take about 2 hours.
- Lift the vehicle on a ramp or jack it up on the driver's side.
- Remove the front left wheel (for easier access).
- Be sure to place an axle stand under the front subframe for safety.
- Place a container to catch the waste oil (with a capacity of at least 3 litres).
For the change, you will need 3 litres of 75W90 transmission oil (API GL-4). Read more about choosing gearbox oil here.
The volume of oil to be filled depends on the drivetrain:
- For front-wheel drive versions — about 2.2–2.3 litres.
- For all-wheel drive versions — about 2.5 litres.
You should fill it up to the level of the inspection hole. Buying three 1-litre bottles will cover the needs of any modification.
Which oil to use in the Chery Tiggo Manual Gearbox and when to change it?
The manufacturer recommends oil with a viscosity of SAE 75W90. There is no specific original part number; quality aftermarket options are used.
Popular options:
- Yokki YBA011001P
- Mobil 75W90
- Toyota 08885-80606
Replacement interval: according to the maintenance schedule, the manual gearbox oil in the Chery Tiggo should be changed every **40,000 km** or every 4 years. An interval of 80,000–100,000 km is excessive and can lead to premature unit wear.
Remove the sump guard (if fitted).
Using a 24mm spanner, unscrew the drain plug.
Location of the gearbox drain plug.
Drain the old oil into the prepared container. Wait for the fluid to drain completely.
Unscrew the check (filler) plug to check the level and clean the magnet (if present).
For convenient filling from above, remove the air filter housing: loosen the hose clamp, disconnect the sensor connector, and unscrew the housing mountings. Then, using a 24mm spanner, unscrew the gear detent (the bolt on top of the gearbox). Insert the hose with the funnel into the hole and pour in the new oil until it starts to flow out of the inspection hole at the bottom.
The process of filling the Chery Tiggo gearbox with oil through the detent hole.
Filling through the side inspection hole is more difficult due to limited access, so the method via the top is preferable.
Materials used: 75W90 viscosity transmission oil was used for the change.
